Faithful to His Promises

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so, through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
2 Corinthians 1:20

There are thousands of promises of God in His Word. Though scholars don’t agree on the exact amount, the common estimate is about 8000, with over 7000 being promises to humanity, God’s most treasured creation. Most of these promises are found in the Old Testament, so let’s never diminish its importance.

For all of the recorded promises of God, He has remained faithful to every single one. From his promise to Abraham of countless descendants (Gen 12), to the birth of Isaac (Gen 21), to the kingship of David (2 Sam 5), to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus (Matt 1:25, 27:50, 28:6), and everything in between. God is perfectly faithful! And despite our impatience to make things happen in our own timing and strength, God’s plans always come to fruition in his timing. God doesn’t long for our perfect intentions, he knows we’re not capable of it, but he does long for our consistent obedience.

He wants our hearts to be postured towards fulfilling His purposes for His world.

So, in 2 Corinthians 1, as Paul’s plans change, he keeps in step with the Lord and obediently walks in faith, knowing that God is faithful to His promises, all of which are fulfilled in Christ Jesus. That’s our challenge for today, friends – to walk in sync with God, trusting that He has the better plan and the bigger picture than the one we planned or imagined.
