Mission Fiji 2026
I wasn’t expecting to be on this year’s Fiji Mission trip, let alone leading it, but God had other plans. What a joy to return to Fiji for a sixth time with some amazing young people!
Months of preparation and prayer, and God’s goodness and faithfulness was on full display. Our list of answered prayers are pages long, and all my personal hopes and goals were not only met but exceeded by God! We progressed our building project with Brother Lai,* we served at a women’s refuge, hospital, school, youth group, and church, we were safe and healthy, our students were challenged and rose to it. They served and worshipped wholeheartedly, glorified God, and had so much fun doing it.
A friend asked me what I love about these trips, and the list is long, but here’s a few reasons:
Fijian joy and hospitality is unparalleled and challenges my way of life at home,
I love serving in practical ways like building projects, farm work, painting, etc, and
I really love speaking about faith and life with young people. But on top of that I also love learning from them. Some write young people off, but I’ve been so encouraged as they preached the good news of Jesus, many times without words.
Leading up to the trip, I felt the weight of responsibility that leadership brings. But the mantra of ‘feel the fear and do it anyway, knowing that God is with you’ kept ringing loudly. I was blown away in one of our evening devotion times by Romans 8:32
‘He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?’
This phrase ALL THINGS kept coming back to me over and over again as I saw God’s abundant provision. That as if giving up His Son wasn’t enough, He also desires to give us ALL THINGS and to continue to bless us. It blows my mind how generous and good God is, and that this generosity and goodness, and His grace is available to all people!
My fears before the trip? None of them eventuated! My son’s words that ‘worrying doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles, Mum, it only takes away today’s peace’ were so helpful. One of the largest blessings from this trip was seeing our students embrace the safe space we gave them and fill it with their vulnerability and desire to grow in relationship with each other and with God.
I’ve also been reminded that God brings people into our lives for seasons, and we have the blessing of relationship for a time, but ultimately, they are his and he loves them and will keep surrounding them with people who point them back to him. It’s His Spirit who will keep doing a work within them, not me. I’m grateful for playing a small part in their lives, but am grateful that it’s all His work of continuing to mould them into the likeness of Jesus.
One final reflection...our team also laughed A LOT through this trip! I think I may now have abs. So, thanks team, for bringing such joy into my life and soul – both on a simple and profound level.

* For those who pray, please pray for this ministry centre, named Goshen. Pray that God would enable its completion quicker than anticipated, and ultimately that it will be a place that lives up to its Old Testament counterpart; a safe haven where God protects and provides for his people.
